Not to brag, but New York City is the best place in the world.

You probably don’t need a ton of help figuring out what to do while you’re in town—there’s the whole internet for that—but if you want to know the wacky stuff we love the most, here ya go.

Start with the map

We collected 68+ of the restaurants, bakeries, museums, and adventures we recommend in a Google map. Go nuts.

Adventures we’d recommend

Go to a sport! Check the schedule at Barclays Center, where the New York Liberty (and Ellie the elephant!!!) play, or see if the Mets or the Yankees have any games you could venture to.

Museum it up. The standard fare is always worth it—the Met, MoMA, the Guggenheim.—but the Tenement Museum is one of my favorites, and the Brooklyn Museum often has fun special exhibits.

If you’re not really into the whole city thing, head to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and commune with nature.

Go shopping in Williamsburg. The neighborhood is full of shops and fun vintage stores. Bop around! Get a bagel and explore!

Listen to jazz in a Bed Stuy brownstone. This show in a Brooklyn apartment is one of my favorite tourist adventures.

See a show on Broadway. I’m not sure what will be on next year, but text if you want a recommendation! Hadestown, if it’s still there, is a favorite.

Budget-friendly options

Adventure through Central Park (free) or rent a Citibike (~$5-10 depending on how long your ride is) and cruise along the West Side Highway.

Take the Staten Island ferry and see the Statue of Liberty. The ferry is famously a free way to get a good look at our girl. Just get off and get right back on when you get to Staten Island—we don’t want to lose you over there.

Go on a food tour in Flushing. Some of the best—and cheapest—Chinese food in the city is in this Queens neighborhood. It’s a bit of a trek on the 7 train, but once you’re there, your journey is walkable.

I don’t love walking the High Line (so busy and chaos), but a lot of people do—and it’s free.

Here’s a recent story in The New York Times (my employer—yer welcome for the clicks) with more ideas.
